Why Socialism? WHY THE F*%# NOT!

Why Socialism?

There’s a lot of crap fed to the public about socialism by both the media and govt. Not really surprising since both are either owned or run by the rich, who sure as hell don’t benefit from everyone being cared for or a fair system. So why don’t I support the currently popular form of “Boom & Bust” Capitalism. (I say current because it’s still based on unproven theories (read: lies) that “markets will adjust themselves fairly” and “everyone has something to sell”.)

Capitalism doesn’t work. It’s simple really. The greediest people gain the most money, therefore the most power, so capitalism is based on the assumption that the greediest people in a system will do the best possible thing for society for the worst reasons of all, i.e. their own profit. In the current “democratic system” (which isn’t really democratic) the richest people (companies) hijack elections, make “contributions” to parties and basically buy off the nominees. This isn’t even hidden anymore because they’re fully aware that most people do the whole apathetic , hands in the air, “ah well, nothin we can do, back to the grindstone”. Can

Bullshit!

Communism is the idea that food, clothing, shelter, wealth, etc should be shared equally. That’s fine if those things are available. Under most previous versions of government controlled “communism”, corrupt people quickly take over and ensure that they & their family, friends, cronies, etc get the lions share and the crumbs are distributed amongst the rest, if any crumbs are left. It’s a great ideal IN THEORY but without the creation of a truly democratic system FOR THE PEOPLE, it can eventually be as corrupt as capitalism is now.

Democratic Socialism (or even Revolutionary Socialism if oppression prevents democracy) creates a system in which The People truly control the govt, resources (food, water, energy, housing) and their own lives, where the aim of the system is to make sure ALL people are provided for, not just to give massive profits & surplus to the few and leave the rest hoping to either be one of the few that join them or begging for handouts. A system where elected representatives are IMMEDIETELY recallable. Where people vote and have a say in their communities on issues that affect them. Sound time consuming? Boring? In countries where they’ve had to fight and sometimes die for their freedom, they don’t think so. If your working day was 6 hours long then spending one hour a week having a say about your life, community and world wouldn’t be that much of a hardship, would it? Remember, if ludicrously high profits, usually between %25-%500 for the owners wasn’t the aim of your industry then your pay would be higher, even if the overall cost of the product was made more affordable so the need of long shifts and no family time wouldn’t be neccesary.

The aim of capitalism is to eventually make sure that ALL services, industries and resources are Privatised. This means owned by companies. Companies ARE NOT democratic insitutions, they are profit driven monoliths. The majority of us already seem to know this but don’t seem to understand what that will mean when Globalised “Free Market” Capitalism has fully spread across the globe.

WHEN COMPANIES ARE IN CONTROL, THERE WILL BE NO REAL DEMOCRACY. Think about it. Why would corporations allow the majority to make decisions that could affect their profits if they can prevent it? Once they control the globe, resources, food, water, property, and even people, NOTHING will be free. Want fresh air, clean water, etc? It’s gonna cost and if you protest that you have a “right to it”, corporate police will be throwing you in a cell and since there’ll be no public defenders left, you’ll be in a work camp for the rest of your life. Sound far fetched? Think it through.

“But Governments won’t let it happen!” Really? Which governemt? The same ones that invade countries and kill civillians for oil supplies? The same ones that cease building public housing because it might affect the cost and demand for “investors” housing while men women and children stay homeless? The same ones that sell off all previously publicly owned energy, communication, sevices providors simply to get quick profits to run their own schemes? Those Governments? Those governments have a collar around their necks with a leash attached and you don’t have to look far to see who’s hand is holding that leash.

The disguise of “Democray Inc” will stay in place for a while yet. Most first world countries are more refined than the tinpot dictators in other countries. They will continue to give you the well groomed “puppet on the left or the puppet on the right”. While the right-wing corporate parties invoke more and more facist & racist laws to disguise their corporate agenda and the “liberal left” move more to the centre and swap their “Peace” t-shirts and “Human Rights” chants for corporate suits and free market diatribe, you and I are left behind in the slave markets and sweatshops. While they “bid” for your vote and appeal to your wallet, they’ve already sold us down the river just to get where they are.

Your freedom is not a product, your rights are not a commodity to be sold. The People, the workers, the common man and women, created, built and many times died for these countries, NOT the rich, NOT the companies.

If you’re apathetic, can’t be bothered, are busy watching the footy, partying, don’t care bout all that stuff or don’t have the time, fine. Just remember the boiling frog scenario: At what point do you decide to get out of the pot? At what point will it be too late?

The truth is this: Socialism may not make you sexier, it may not get you laid, it may not fix bad breathe or increase your “penis/breast” size. It DOES NOT go better with coke. It may however create a better society, stop thousands starving to death each day, improve the lives and conditions of millions around the world and get you a fairer deal in life, along with the rest of the human race. It may protect the real values you have in life, instead of selling them off to the highest bidder. See, the old saying is true, “Another World Is Possible”. I guess your decision is this:

Do I take the red pill;

Or do I keep swallowing the same green (greed) pill till it eventually kills me and everything I care about?

Simple, isn’t it?

And remember, when you have enough Don Quitoxe’s, those windmills don’t stand a fuckin’ chance.

cheers
